Frequently asked questions
FAQs
Is it necessary to know exactly what to talk about before starting therapy?
No. Many people begin therapy with a general sense that something feels difficult, overwhelming or stuck. The work can begin from there.
How many sessions are usually needed?
This depends on your individual needs, goals and circumstances. Some people come for short-term support, while others prefer or benefit from longer-term therapy. For some, support in therapy can be an ongoing process, offering a regular space for reflection, emotional support and personal growth. The length and focus of therapy can be reviewed together as the work develops.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a gentle opportunity to explore what has brought someone to therapy, what support may be helpful and what may feel important to focus on. There is no need to share everything at once.
Is therapy confidential?
Therapy is confidential, with some ethical and legal limits. These are explained clearly before the work begins.
Are in-person sessions available?
Currently, Ooyia offers online therapy across the UK.
What if urgent support is needed?
Ooyia is not a crisis service. If there is a risk of harm to self or others, or urgent support is needed, please contact a GP, NHS 111, emergency services, or attend A&E.
